COD Classroom 3 – Session 1 – 2 Presentations
1- College Chemistry II (Hybrid)
2- Biology (Hybrid)
Presentation 1 Description:
College Chemistry II (Hybrid)
Beth Kelley
This hybrid course uses rich instructor-created videos to illustrate structures and reactions of organic compounds. Students like to pause the video, work out problems, and then resume to check their answer. Surveys rated the videos very highly. Online quizzes provide students with practice and immediate feedback. Weekly hands-on lab experiments reinforce content and students develop connections with their peers. Discussion boards encourage students to explore and discuss compound classes and the role that these play in everyday life. Collaborate is used for office hours and review sessions.
Presentation 2 Description:
Biology (Hybrid)
Nikolaus Sucher
This course represents a Hybrid version of Biology I, taken by half the students at Roxbury Community College, providing online lecture and in person laboratory. This course stands out in its organization and use of Open Educational Resources (OER). The Learning Management System, is used to provide structured weekly readings, activities, quizzes, and supplemental videos. Professor Sucher also generated an OER laboratory manual tailored to this course and illustrated using images generated from the college’s slides and specimens.
