How Students Learn: Lessons from Cognitive Psychology

Integrating research based principles of learning, memory, and attention to your course can help students monitor and optimize their learning processes. We will explore, for example, how to reduce extraneous attentional demands and how to improve memory for new material by embedding opportunities for rehearsal and connecting it to meaningful prior learning. While examples are from an online cognitive psychology course, you can apply many of these principles to any discipline or delivery method.
